About the Program


The Chemical Dependency Fellowship Program (CDFP) is a component of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The principle aim of the CDFP is to provide comprehensive postgraduate addiction training. Graduates from this program work in public and private clinical, academic and research settings. The program is funded by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.


Program Activities


CDFP Fellows participate in:

  • Clinical rotations at the Oklahoma City VA Hospital and Oklahoma Department of Corrections to receive general experience in treatment issues within a hospital and correctional setting.
  • Clinical rotations at local residential treatment facilities focusing on women and the treatment of co-occurring disorders.
  • Regularly scheduled seminars, didactic training sessions, and other educational experiences designed to further clinical skills.
  • Mentoring in a research project that will result in submission of a poster at a national conference and a paper of publishable quality.


Career Opportunities


All CDFP Fellows receive:

  • Direct experience with evidence-based clinical substance abuse treatment.
  • Preparation toward an academic or research oriented career.
  • Preparation toward specialization in chemical dependency.
  • Clinical supervision hours which may count toward Oklahoma state licensure requirements.


Admission Requirements


All applicants should have completed:

  • A Ph.D./Psy.D. APA-approved predoctoral clinical internship program.
  • An APA-approved doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology.


Ideal Candidates


Successful candidates are expected to have an interest in developing both clinical and research expertise in substance abuse, with a specific focus on developing evidence-based, theoretically driven clinical techniques and programs.
