General Psychiatry Residency Program
The Residency Training Program at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences is
fully accredited by the ACGME for a total of 16 resident positions. We have a
rich and proud tradition with over 50 years of continuous existence. Our basic
philosophy is to cultivate fully-capable psychiatrists trained in all aspects of modern
psychiatric practice.
Child-Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a two-year fully accredited
program it is usually entered after the third or fourth year of psychiatry residency, although under
special circumstances, training can begin after the PG II year. Only two fellows are selected each year
to ensure a friendly and closely supervised milieu.
Undergraduate Medical Education
Students learn about human behavior and psychiatry throughout the four years of medical school in Human Behavior I and II, the Psychiatry Clerkship and fourth year electives. These courses help future physicians understand the interplay of emotional, cognitive, biological, and psychosocial factors in their patients’ health and illness. A psychiatry interest group, PsychOU, offers social and educational enrichment to students interested in psychiatry.
Chemical Dependency Fellowship Program
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center's Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
offer a one-year postdoctoral fellowship program in Chemical Dependency.
Training programs are available for a board eligible psychiatrist and a doctoral level psychologist.
Clinical Psychology Internship
This consortium internship program is offered through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Consortium agencies include Children's Hospital of Oklahoma and its clinics -- Child Study Center, Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, and University Hospital. The internship was first offered in 1961 and received APA approval in 1962. We have 14 different rotation sites providing both adult and child experiences.
Clinical Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology is a two-year postdoctoral specialty training program which includes didactic, clinical, and research activities. The program currently has three full-time postdoctoral positions. Two Fellows are funded by University Hospital (Everett Tower) and one by the VA Medical Center. The faculty includes six neuropsychologists.
Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Clinical Psychology
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Clinical Psychology includes didactic, clinical and research activities with a specialty in Clinical Neuropsychology or an emphasis in one of three other areas: chemical dependency (one year), pediatric psychology/child clinical (one year, second year possible), and psychology in primary care (one year).
Biological Psychology Program
The Biological Psychology Training Program, located in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, offers opportunities in a medical setting (1) to study biobehavioral processes with special emphasis on health-related conditions; (2) to focus on consequences, treatment, and risk factors of substance abuse; and (3) to develop a multi-level, cross-disciplinary approach to conducting basic and applied research.
