The Oklahoma Center for Alcohol and Drug-Related Studies is a designated
academic center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
in Oklahoma City. Established in 1968, the missions of the Center include
preparing researchers and clinicians to address issues related to the
acute and chronic effects of alcohol and drugs, the etiology, risk factors,
and consequences of alcohol/drug use and abuse, and effective means
of intervening and preventing these disorders.
The
Center provides the community, state, and nation with state-of-the-art
information in substance abuse —our nation's #1 health problem.
The Center's faculty, trainees, students, and staff members are highly
committed to achieving both academic and scientific excellence.
The
Center serves as an umbrella organization for several laboratories,
including the Behavioral Sciences Laboratory, Neuropsychopharmacology
Laboratory, Psychobiology Research Laboratory, Women's Health Laboratory,
and other affiliated laboratories, and the Chemical
Dependency Program.
New developments
in the understanding of the psychology and neurobiology of addictive
processes and advances in behavioral and psychopharmacological intervention
strategies make these exciting times. We invite you to learn about us
through our website and newsletter, and to give us feedback on the Center's
activities and programs.
